What Does Talisman Do ?Talisman provides an alternative shell to much of
the standard Windows shell. ( A "shell" is the basic
interface you employ to control and operate the
features of your computer system. )Talisman primarily changes the desktop.
That's the 'workspace' you use when you're not
in particular applications (programs). It's what
you initially see when Windows has finished
starting up.Talisman is more than a "theme" ...a LOT more !
We're not talking merely changing the background
picture ("wallpaper") on your desktop. You can
do THAT without Talisman (in the Windows
Control Panel).Talisman permits unparalleled customization of
your desktop:You can hide desktop icons. Make them
"mouse-over". Create custom pop-up and
drop-down menu's. Embed icons in your
background. Use multiple pictures in your
desktop background. Display or conceal
pictures on the desktop by command.
Create and use multiple desktops, and
easily switch between them. The main limitations on customization with
Talisman are your imagination, your ingenuity,
and the time you wish to devote to getting
your desktop the way you want it.
What Talisman Doesn't Do
Talisman isn't a "skinning" program (like, say,
WindowBlinds). While plug-in's permit certain
applications to run using custom title bars and
features, Talisman doesn't universally change the
appearance of applications and Windows
dialogue boxes.Talisman is a desktop replacement.
Nor does Talisman alter the Windows task bar,
start button, quick launch, or system tray. It offers
an alternative to the Windows task bar, but doesn't
"skin" the Windows task bar or change it.( You can continue to utilize the native Windows
task bar, start button, quick launch, and system
tray ...all of which are actually pretty good ! )And, unlike the other desktop replacements,
Talisman DOESN'T require you to be an
initiate of a Secret Rite to customize it. The
basic features of Talisman are pretty straight-
foward and intuitive. There's very little "code", and what code Talisman
has ain't esoteric. You're not dealing with arcane
syntax !

Talisman do things...
